İrem UZUN -TDO- Barack Obama strongly criticized President Donald Trump and his administration over the COVID-19 response during a speech to Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden supporters on Saturday. "Donald Trump isn't suddenly going to protect all of us. He can't even take the basic steps to protect himself," he said, referring to Trump's hospitalization for coronavirus three weeks ago.
“This pandemic would have been challenging for any president, but this idea that somehow this White House has done anything but completely screw this up is just not true,” Obama said before pointing to how countries like South Korea and Canada have handled the pandemic. “Other countries are still struggling with the pandemic, but they're not doing as bad as we are, because they've got a government that's actually been paying attention,” he said.
"There's no sense that he's coming up with a new approach, with a new plan. He doesn't even acknowledge that there's a problem," Obama continued. "Just this week, he complained that the pandemic was making him go back to work. If he had been working in the first place, we never would have seen the situation get this bad." Obama continued to stress that Trump doesn't have a plan" to combat the virus, and "doesn't take responsibility for what's happening across the country."
Trump signaled he watched Obama’s speech. As a response, “Nobody is showing up for Obama’s hate laced speeches,” he tweeted shortly after his predecessor concluded, claiming without evidence that only “47 people” showed up at his event. “No energy, but still better than Joe!” Trump said.
