Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The latest data released by Italy's Interior Ministry for 2019 points to the huge drop in irregular migration arrivals.
The number of irregular migrants arriving in Italy via the Mediterranean has decreased compared to previous years and a total of 11,439 irregular migrants have arrived in the country in 2019.
In January December 1, 2019 to December 24, 2019, the number of migrants arriving in the country irregularly was 11,439, according to data from Italy's Interior Ministry.
According to experts, this gradual, albeit severe, reduction over the past two years has had a significant impact on the agreement between Italy and Libya to prevent illegal irregular migration and fight against human traffickers signed in February 2017.
The agreement, which the United Nations ' migration-related institutions have criticised for its human rights, was signed between then-Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni and Libyan Prime Minister Fayizes-Serrac.
