Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has formally apologized to those who came to the country as migrant workers from island nations in the Pacific Ocean and were subjected to "racial dawn raids" between 1974 and 1976.

Ardern made the remarks at a ceremony at Auckland City Hall in response to dawn raids targeting the ethnicity of migrant workers from 1974 to 1976.

Ardern said in a statement that the incident happened almost 50 years ago, but that her remains remain, adding that the remains remain in the memory of those affected.

Ardern also said the government would fund new education and training grants for Pacific communities and help compile an official report of raids from written records and oral information.
