Selin ATAY-TDO- In the Belgian province of Mol, 45 people tested positive for Covid-19 after a visit to the nursing home of Saint Nicholas, known as "Santa Claus."
Last week, the son of one of the nursing home's residents visited the nursing home wearing a Santa Claus costume with the intention of boosting morale for the elderly who remained in the nursing home during the difficult pandemic, Belgian media reported.
The nursing home, where 150 people are staying, is being investigated by the municipality's monitoring center whether a person in a Santa Claus costume was carrying the coronavirus. If, as is claimed, Santa infected 45 people with the coronavirus, it will turn out that Santa is a super-carrier.
Authorities have reacted strongly to and warned against nursing home management allowing the event despite Santa being banned regardless of whether he is a carrier. In a statement, the nursing home management said that the mask and social distance rules were observed throughout the event and that no gifts were distributed.
In Belgium, nursing homes are called "high-risk places" under measures against Covid-19.
