Serhat TUNAR -TDO- After the resignation of Prime Minister Antti Rinne last week in Finland, the new government headed by 34-year-old Sanna Marin won a vote of confidence in Parliament and took office.
Marin also won the title of the world's youngest prime minister when the new government won a vote of confidence. The new government has 12 female and 7 male ministers.
Recently, Pekka Haavisto (the Green Party), the target of criticism for allegedly violating international law rules on bringing children of ISIS members in camps in Syria to Finland, was also named foreign minister in the new cabinet.
Maria Ohisalo, leader of the Green party, will continue to serve as the interior ministry, the most influential authority on immigration issues.
Ville Skinnari of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), known for his support for Turkish candidates and his moderate view of relations with Turkey, will serve as Minister of development and foreign trade in the new government.
Marin is also certain to be elected party leader at the SDP Congress in 2019. If Marin leads the SDP, all five parties that form the coalition government will be women.
