Netanyahu made some promises to party members in his Likud Party, which he leads, ahead of Thursday's presidential election. Netanyahu recalled that during his premiership, U.S. President Donald Trump signed the decree recognizing the entirety of Jerusalem as "the capital of Israel." He also reminded that U.S. recognized Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights, the land of occupied Syria.
"I will do something else," Netanyahu said in a pledge to the party. “I will ensure that the United States recognizes our sovereignty in the Jordan Valley and all settlements. That's the next step, and only I can do it. "he said.
Mr. Netanyahu and Gideon Saar, one of the party's leading deputies, will contest Thursday's election in Likud.
Netanyahu had also pledged to "annex Israel" all illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank and the Jordan Valley before an early election on September 17.
