Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- Russian politician Alexei Navalny, who returned to Russia from Germany, was sentenced to 30 days in prison by a court on January 18th after his detention at the airport.
Navalny's lawyer Vadim Kobsev posted on his Twitter account that the 44-year-old opposition politician will remain in prison until February 15th.
Navalny described his trial as a political order to silence him, and after the court announced its decision, be appealed to the public to take to the streets.
"Don't be afraid, go out on the street, not for me, but for yourself, for your future," Navalny told the Russian people in a video he posted on YouTube following the verdict.
Noting that the country is "corrupt" because of Vladimir Putin, who has been in power in the country for more than 20 years, Navalny said: "Don't shut up! Defend yourself! There are enough of us to get to something," he said.
