MYANMAR MILITARY GOVERNMENT ORDERS TELECOM NETWORKS TO TEMPORARILY BLOCK FACEBOOK

Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- Myanmar's The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology administers said in a statement that the state-owned telecom company MPT and private internet servers in the country have been ordered to block access to Facebook until February 7th.

"As of this moment, some individuals are causing misunderstandings in the public by sharing false news and information via Facebook,” the statement said.

Following the government's directive, MPT, which has 23 million users, also banned Instagram and WhatsApp apps, especially Facebook, while other telecom companies blocked only Facebook.

Facebook spokesman Andy Stone confirmed that access to Facebook has stopped completely.
