According to research by a local news agency, the number of those who tested positive for Covid-19 but waited in line to be admitted to hospital and placed in hotels due to lack of beds increased compared to the previous month. According to the study, the number of waiting patients in the 1500s in the third week of December 2020 rose in Tokyo by almost 4.8 times to 7,500 in the third week of this month. The number of those waiting increased to 1,169 in Saitama, north of Tokyo, 2,328 in Chiba, east of it, and 1,410 in Osaka city.
In Japan, patients were forced to wait in their homes since the available capacity did not meet the demands. Therefore, most of patients who tested positive for Covid-19 lost their lives. Local public health centers in the country found appropriate for those who tested positive for Covid-19 to be treated in hospital or for those who show mild symptoms to be placed in accommodation.
