Nuran YILDIRIM –TDO- Following the elections in Gambia in December, Yahya Jammeh refused to leave the office, saying he did not recognize the election result. This lead the political crisis in the country; many political officials, including foreign and economy ministers, resigned and left the country. Due to security risk, the president-elect Barrow stays in Senegal.

In spite of calls for the assignment of his duty, Yahya Jammeh, who explained that he would not abandon his presidency, declared a state of emergency in the country. Consequently, the Gambian National Assembly announced that Jammeh, who had to transfer his duties on January 19th, extended his term of office by three months.

After all, it was stated that the Senegalese troops entered Gambia in the statement made by the Senegal army. The military intervention by Senegal is supported by the Nigerian army, due to the political crises that occurred in Gambia after the elections.

On the other hand, Adama Barrow, who won the presidential election of Gambia, attended an inauguration ceremony held in Gambia's capital of Senegal, Dakar.
