Selin ATAY-TDO- Russian and North Korean hackers with links to the state attempted to steal the work of leading pharmaceutical companies and vaccine researchers, and this attempt was detected by Microsoft, according to a statement from US-based technology giant Microsoft.
Russian and North Korean hackers targeted addresses in Canada, France, India, South Korea and the United States, Microsoft said in a statement. Microsoft also emphasized that many of these targets are companies that are researching Covid-19 vaccines and treatments.
Russian military agents, also known as “Fancy Bear,” who were indicted by Britain's National Cyber Security Centre in July, was part of the state-backed hacking group identified by Microsoft. Other hacker networks identified by Microsoft are North Korea's Lazarus and Cerium group.
Microsoft said in a statement that hackers ' activities to access the data were mainly attempts to steal the credentials that people at targeted organizations use to sign in.
A recent statement by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reported that hackers working on behalf of the Chinese government were trying to access research to develop the Covid-19 vaccine.
China-based cyber hackers trying to infiltrate research on the coronavirus vaccine had been spotted by cybersecurity experts at the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, according to US media reports. The Washington administration filed a criminal complaint in July over the attempted hacking of Chinese hackers.
