News Centre -TDO- On April 12, the Ambassador of Mexico in Turkey, José Luis Martínez y Hernández, and the Mayor of the Çankaya Municipality, Alper Taşdelen, unveiled the mural “Blossom”, a piece by Mexican artist Kathrina Rupit, located at the heart of the city, on Güvenlik Caddesi 84. The image of a woman infused with color and traditional Mexican patterns and clothing can be seen in the mural, which is a symbol of friendship between Mexico and Turkey.
The mural was a collaboration between the Embassy of Mexico and the Municipality of Çankaya. During his remarks at the unveiling, Ambassador Martínez underscored that he hopes that this piece contributes to the street art scene in the city, which is increasing its relevance every day.
About the artist
Kathrina Rupit was born in Mexico City but currently resides in Dublin, Ireland, where she has lived and worked for the last ten years. Recognized as a street artist, Kathrina has now become a vital part of the Irish vibrant street art scene. As a contemporary artist she has exhibited her artwork internationally in collaboration with galleries and art centers in Mexico, Europe and the United States, along with international organizations such as Greenpeace, United Nations, Amnesty International, Street Art for Mankind, among others.
Kathrina arrived in Ankara two weeks ago, to participate in the art fair ArtAnkara, where she shared her work with Turkish art lovers. Her work is currently being showcased at the Exhibition Hall in Portakal Çiçeği Residence building, where the Embassy of Mexico is located.
