Görkem ŞEKEROĞLU -TDO- At least 15 civilians were killed and 20 others wounded as an explosion hit a religious gathering in central Afghanistan the country’s interior ministry said, adding that children may be among the victims. The attack targeted a Quran recitation ceremony on Friday (18 December).
According to the Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Arian, intelligence sources suggested that explosives were placed in a motorised rickshaw in a district of central Ghazni province where the explosion occurred at 2pm local time.
Provincial governor spokesman Jumazada stated that preliminary inquiries claimed the blast occurred when children gathered around a man who was riding the motorcycle and selling items. Jumazada said there was a Quran recitation ceremony nearby.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Ghazni is among the most turbulent Afghan provinces where Taliban militants have control over half of the districts.
