Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Stephan Balliet, who was tried for 2 murders and 51 attempted murders in Halle, Germany, was sentenced to life in prison.
At a sentencing hearing in the Naumburg state Supreme Criminal Court, Balliet, who orchestrated the attack in October 2019, was sentenced to life in prison.
Court President Ursula Mertens said the racist attack was cowardly. Josef Schuster, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, said the decision was an important symbol against antisemitism.
"The Halle attack showed us how important it is to continue the fight against antisemitism and xenophobia more decisively, and it is good that justice is being served today," said Ulrike Demmer, a deputy government spokesman."
