Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck off Miyagi province in northeastern Japan at 10.27 am local time.
Local authorities in the surrounding provinces of Aomori, Iwate, and Fukushima announced that there were no injuries or casualties.
Officials said there was no risk of a tsunami after the quake.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) revised its previously announced depth of 60 kilometers to 51 kilometers.
South of Miyagi, there were no abnormalities at the Fukushima Dai-in and Dai-ni nuclear power plants, Kyodo reported.
Some services on the Tohoku Shinkansen train lines in the northeast of the country were briefly suspended.
