LATIN AMERICAN ENVOYS LAY WREATH AT ANITKABIR TO MARK THE 200th ANNIVERSARY OF THE INDEPENDENCE OF THEIR COUNTRIES

News Centre -TDO- The Ambassadors of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Brazil, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, will undertake joint cultural and academic activities between 2021 and 2023, to commemorate the Bicentennial anniversaries of Independence of the Latin American countries and establish a path towards 2023, when the Republic of Turkey will celebrate the centennial of its foundation.  

On May 27, the Ambassadors of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Brazil in Ankara, and the Directors of the Americas and of Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, laid a wreath at Atatürk´s Mausoleum. The symbolic event marks the launch of a series of joint cultural and academic activities to mark the Bicentennial anniversaries of Independence of these Latin American countries, as well as the Proclamation of the Republic of Turkey. 

In 2021, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama and Peru commemorate the 200th anniversary of their independence, while Brazil celebrates the same occasion in 2022 and Turkey marks the centennial of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey in 2023.  

The Latin American countries enjoy excellent relations with Turkey. Therefore, to celebrate these special occasions, from 2021 to 2023, the Embassies will undertake a series of joint cultural and academic activities- together with the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs-, to establish a path towards 2023, when the Republic of Turkey will commemorate 100 years of its establishment.

The celebrations also seek to raise awareness of the ever-growing relations between Turkey and these Latin American countries. The activities will include concerts, culinary events, movie screenings and other cultural and academic events.
