Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Relations and Security Policy, said Turkey and Russia welcomed the ceasefire process agreed in an effort to ease tensions in Idlib.
"Turkey is taking on a huge burden by hosting 4 million asylum seekers," Borrell said. We need to understand that. However, asylum seekers should not be used as a means of repression."
Speaking to reporters ahead of an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers focused on the ongoing Syrian and migration crisis in Zagreb, the Croatian capital, Borell added that the ceasefire process was a sign of goodwill.
Borrell pointed out that Turkey and Russia need to mend relations, saying there needs to be a focus on the humanitarian situation in Idlib.
