İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO-11.08.2017- Probable attack to Guam by North Korea, would be dismissed by Japan.

According to Kyodo News Agency, Japanese Defense Minister, Itsunori Onodera, said Japan could legally intercept a North Korean attack to Guam.

Onodera told a lower house of parliament committee that Japan would be allowed to hit a missile headed towards the U.S. Pacific territory if it was judged to be an existential threat to Japan.

Moreover, in accordance with an article published by USA Today newspaper, in case of an attack to the US Pacific territory of Guam by Pyongyang, missiles would reach the island in 14 minutes. Citing Jenna Gaminde, the Guam Homeland Security spokeswoman, if an attack happens, all residents of the island would be notified via 15 All-Hazards Alert Warning System sirens if North Korea were to launch missiles at it. She said "Our office will be notified from the military and will utilize all forms of mass communication to get the message out to the public".

Japan as an old friend and ally of USA, feels additional responsibility about the issue.  Nevertheless, some experts argued that Japan does not currently have the capability to shoot down a missile flying over its territory headed for Guam.
