Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The governments of Japan and Australia have expressed serious concern about reports of human rights violations against Uighur and other Muslim minorities in China's Xinjiang Autonomous Region.

Japan and Australia discussed the issue in a joint statement after a meeting of the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs.

"We share serious concerns about reported human rights violations and call on China to urgently grant unlimited access to international observers," the statement said.

China's Foreign Ministry accused the two countries of playing the "China threat" game and carrying out an unfounded smear campaign.
