Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- In Bahrain, hundreds of people protested the death of opposition activist Hussein Barekat, who contracted a new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) in prison, at a hospital where he was being treated.
Three years ago, Barakat, who was sentenced to life in prison in 2018, died on 9th June morning at the Es Selmaniye Medical Complex, where he was being treated for Covid-19.
The country's banned opposition movement, the Al-Vifak Society, blamed the government, saying Barakat died in prison and that his death was caused by medical negligence.
The Interior Ministry said Barakat received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine against the pandemic months ago.
The ministry did not provide details about the vaccine.
The London-based Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy said Barakat was a Chinese-made Sinopharm vaccine.
