Serhat TUNAR -TDO- After the Spanish government announced that it would send military ships to rescue asylum seekers in the Open Arms, the Italian prosecutor decided to confiscate the Open Arms rescue vessel, which had been stranded with close to 100 refugees off Lampedusa for 19 days.
If the Open Arms is confiscated, the Spanish rescue ship is expected to be taken to the port, where Sea Watch and Mediterranea Saving Humans NGOs were previously seized and held.
Asylum seekers aboard the Spanish Open Society's Open Arms ship cannot be disembarked due to Italy's ban on private rescue ships. Although the Spanish government announced that it would accept the ship, it was not possible for the ship, which came to the point of extinction, to embark on this journey.
The Spanish Government took action on the matter after some of the asylum seekers who had been stranded on board for 19 days began to jump into the sea.
