ITALY FINES COMPANIES SERVING FOOD ORDER: 'COURIERS ARE NOT SLAVES'

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The Italian judiciary has fined JustEat, Uber Eats, Glovo and Deliveroo, which provide online food ordering services, a total of 733 million euros for failing to provide job security for their couriers.

As part of an investigation conducted by the prosecutor general's Office of Milan, it was found that companies offering online food ordering services violated occupational safety rules for couriers who distribute food.

Accordingly, it was decided to fine the 4 companies in question a total of 733 million euros, and the companies were obliged to hire 60 thousand couriers under a temporary contract within 90 days.
