News Centre - TDO- ltaly's Ambassadot to Turkey Luigi Mattiolo and Defence Attaché Navy Staff Colonel Attilio Gattia have hosted a reception at the Italian Embassy to mark Italy's Armed Forces Day.
The reception was attended by heads of foreign missions, military attaches in Ankara, as well as officials from Turkish Armed Forces and local artists.
Following the singing of the national anthems of the two countries, Ambassador Gattia delivered a speech in which he said that millions of young people had sacrificed their lives on the battlefield to protect Italy's territorial integrity, and that millions of Italians had thus become a nation.
Gatti said "This day is a symbol of the determination of the Italian Armed Forces that are always ready to serve their country, protect democratic institutions, serve society and help other nations in need."
Stating that Italy's relation with Turkey was more than fraternal, Gattia said "Other than being NATO allies we are combating terrorism in all its forms. I would like to thank our Turkish guests here, who are once more bearing testimony to the friendship between our two Mediterranean countries. Shared values, traditions and emotions truly make us beyond brothers."
The reception ended after a short concert and samples of Italian cuisine.
