Selin ATAY-TDO-Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennett approved a plan to launch a project to establish a new Jewish Quarter in Hebron, the occupied West Bank. Jordan condemned the approval of the project.
According to Israel's Kanal13 television, the neighborhood that Israel's Defense Minister Naftali Bennett approved the plan will be built at the AL-sentence (Al-Hisbe) Bazaar in the center of the city of Hebron, which was closed by Israel after the 1994 Hebron massacre.
According to the report, about 50 buildings in Al-Hisbe, owned by Palestinians, will be demolished in order to implement the project, but new buildings will be built in their place by “protecting” the rights of Palestinian property owners. It was noted that the establishment of the said neighborhood would ensure the geographical integrity of the Jewish settlements around the harem-I Ibrahim in Hebron.
In a written statement, Jordanian Foreign Minister Eymenes-Safedi said Israel's move "violates international law and is an illegal practice.Stressing that there is no legal side to Jewish settlements under international law, Safedi called on the international community to fulfill its moral and legal responsibilities in order for Israel to cease its activities in this direction.
"Israel's continued Jewish settlement building activities undermine the two-state solution, destroying opportunities to achieve comprehensive and sustainable peace. " he said.
Peace talks between Israel and Palestine, Israel's "1967 borders, subjected to forced migration, Palestinians agree to stop building Jewish settlements in the law and the right of Return of failure" due in April 2014 and stopped in spite of all the efforts was restarted.
The Tel Aviv administration has stepped up expansion of illegal Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem since Donald Trump took office as US President in 2017.
