Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- Israel became the first country in the world to ban fur sales.
The adopted law excludes the shtreimel worn by the Jews of Haredi and Hasidic on the Sabbath and special occasions.
Animal rights groups such as PETA and Animals Now welcomed the decision.
"The fur industry causes hundreds of millions of animals worldwide to die in indescribable suffering every year," Environmental Protection Minister Gila Gamliel said after announcing the regulation, which will take effect in six months.
Gamliel stated that it is unethical and unnecessary to use the fur and skin of wild animals in the fashion industry, adding that with this arrangement, the Israeli fashion industry will become more environmentally friendly and respectful of animals.
