Selin ATAY-TDO- Iraq's Foreign Ministry has responded to a so-called peace plan that the US has dubbed the "deal of the century," calling on Arabs and Muslims to support an independent Palestinian state whose capital will be Jerusalem.
In a written statement on the Iraqi Foreign Ministry's website, it was emphasized that Iraq stands by the legitimate rights of its Palestinian brothers, guaranteed by international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions, to return to their land and home.
All Muslims and Arabs should support the Palestinians in establishing an independent Palestinian state, whose capital will be Jerusalem, and in reclaiming their occupied territories in Lebanon and Syria, the statement reminded that Jerusalem and Masjid Al-Aqsa are under occupation.
Under the so-called peace plan, Trump said Jerusalem would be considered Israel's "indivisible" capital, claiming the plan was an independent Palestinian state and a "last chance" for the Palestinians.
Netanyahu described the plan as "a huge and historic win for Israel."
Donald Trump released via Twitter a copy of his "conceptual map" for a two-state solution that included a greatly reduced Palestinian territory in the West Bank, which also included 15 "Israeli Enclave Communities" linked by Israeli access roads that cut through the envisioned Palestinian territory. That would recognize Israeli sovereignty over existing settlements, which are illegal under international law.
