Serhat TUNAR -TDO- 4 Iranians, including a diplomat, are accused of planning attacks on Iranian dissidents in exile in France in 2018. The trial, which began in Antwerp, Belgium, is the first time a European Union country has brought an Iranian official before a judge on terrorism charges.
Belgian prosecutors accuse Vienna diplomat Assadolah Assadi and three others of plotting an attack on a 2018 rally of the Paris-based Iranian National Resistance Council (NCRI) by Rudy Giuliani, the lawyer for United States President Donald Trump.
Assadi, who was arrested while on holiday in Germany and handed over to Belgium, did not attend the trial in Antwerp. Assadi, who prosecutors say received direct orders from Tehran, was the third adviser at Iran's Embassy in Vienna.
Iran says the attack claims have been put forward by the NCRI, which considers it a terrorist group.
