Selin ATAY-TDO- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani made remarks on U.S. sanctions and negotiations with that country in his speech after a Cabinet meeting in the capital, Tehran.
"If, as the US says, the revolution is going to fall apart in a few months, why are they making concessions?" said Rouhani, referring to the fact that the US has sent many world leaders as intermediaries to negotiate with Iran.
" The US will one day see that maximum pressures do not yield results and sit at the negotiating table. Also, he (Donald Trump) will accept all our terms " Rouhani said.
"If the United States wanted to resolve regional issues, it could do so in cooperation with Suleimani” Rouhani said, recalling that Congress had restricted the powers of U.S. President Donald Trump, the White House and the Pentagon against Iran because of the November Qassem Suleimani killing.
“By negotiating directly to Suleimani, the problems could be solved, now he has to do it with 20 people, it's getting harder." Rouhani said.
Iran's president has argued that they forced the United States to the negotiating table in 2013 and 2015 and signed the treaty document unwillingly, suggesting they could do the same today and force the Washington administration to back down.
In May 2018 Trump pulled out of the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, then reinstated severe economic sanctions under a “maximum pressure” campaign to force Iran to renegotiate the pact.
