Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Kimia Alizadeh, Iran's only female Olympic medalist, has announced she is leaving her country because of the pressures.
Alizadeh, a bronze medalist taekwondo who announced she was leaving her country via her social media account, said she was one of the millions of oppressed women in Iran who had been playing games for years. Alizadeh added that there is a hypocrisy in Iran that uses athletes for political reasons but in reality humiliates them.
In a message shared on his social media account, the Iranian athlete said: "I wore whatever they told me to wear. I said what they told me to say. None of us mean anything to them."
Alizadeh did not share any information about which country he was in, noting that no one invited him to Europe.
Iran-based news agency ISNA claimed last Thursday that Alizadeh had immigrated to the Netherlands. ISNA also shared with his followers that Alizadeh, who was transferred to the Netherlands where he is continuing his training, could be segregated under that country's banner at the 2020 Olympics.
