IRAN PLANS MAJOR JUMP IN URANIUM ENRICHMENT AFTER NATANZ NUCLEAR SITE ATTACK

Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The Iranian government said before the Vienna meeting, which focused on the United States' return to the nuclear deal, that the country had begun enriching uranium with 60% purity.

Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi wrote a letter addressed to Rafael Mariano Grossi, president of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stating that Iran has begun enriching uranium with 60% purity.

The move is thought to bring Iran "closer to the 90% threshold for the use of uranium for military purposes."

On the other hand, Arakçi stated that the damaged machines will be renewed at the Natanz Nuclear Facility in Isfahan, which was attacked on April 11th, and that in addition to existing machines, 1000 centrifuges with a capacity of 50% will be added.
