Selin ATAY-TDO- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has announced that his country will begin meeting the terms of the agreement within an hour if the United States (US) returns to the nuclear deal. However, Rouhani said any changes to the agreement or to limit his country's ballistic missile program could not be discussion topic.
At a news conference in the capital Tehran, the Iranian President claimed that the economic war that US President Donald Trump has imposed on Iran has failed. "The whole world is pressuring the United States to return to the nuclear deal. The Iranian government has not allowed the nuclear deal to go away. Trump's goal was to destroy it. We tried to keep him alive. We do not claim that the negotiations are complete, but this is a historic agreement. It's historic for both Iran and the region," he said.
Rouhani also reiterated that the law on uranium enrichment issued by Iran's Parliament and limiting inspections of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors at nuclear facilities are not considered beneficial for Tehran.
Rouhani reiterated his belief that conditions will change in the new U.S. government. "We want to improve our relations with Western, European and neighboring countries. If 5 + 1 is ready to return to 2017, we are ready and that could happen soon," he said.
A joint committee set up by Germany, France and Britain to convince Iran to fully meet its commitments to the nuclear deal and assess the conflict resolution mechanism is expected to convene today. Today's The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) meeting is being interpreted as the first opportunity to persuade the Biden administration, which will take over the presidency from January 20, to return to the Iran nuclear deal struck in 2015.
