Peace Bell Ceremony on the occasion of the 35th Anniversary of the International Day of Peace was held in Ankara at Botanik Park on September 21. Particularly, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkey Kamal Malhotra and Head of Turkish Japanese Foundation and the Representative of Peace in Turkey Bell Prof. Dr. Tayyar Sadıklar, many ambassadors attended the ceremony.Remending that people around the world fear the next storm of terrorist attacks or outbreak of disease, in his openning remarks Kamal Malhotra said "But this is also a time of opportunity to set the world on a better path". Malhotra;"Ceasefires are vital. But peace is about far more than putting weapons aside. It is about building a global society in which people live free from conflict, and poverty and share the benefits of prosperity. It is about growing together and supporting each other as a universal family."By the end of his speech Kamal Malhotra refererd to Atatürk by saying that " the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk decades ago famously said that we should work for peace at home and peace in the world for an equitable, just, moral and inclusive future which all of humanity deserves. Those words remain as true today as they were when he spoke them. "The other guest who delivered his speech was Prof. Dr. Tayyar Sadıklar. In his speech Prof. Dr. Sadıklar quoted the statment of leader of Indian Independance Movement, Mahatma Gandhi. " If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children"The Ambassador of Japan to Turkey, Hiroshi Oka said " I truly wish that the bell that we ring today, will make us more closer to the world without nuclear weapons and war."After the speeches the bell has been rung to the accompaniment of the participants.News Center
