India has had marked success in world politics in 2014 with its growing economy and influence in its region. We carried out an interview with the Ambassador of India to Turkey, Rahul Kulshreshth, who answered questions about the foreign policy of India.
1) On 25th of January US President Barack Obama visited India. How should the world read this visit?
President Obama paid a three-day visit to India from the 25th to 27th of January, 2015. President Obama is the first US President to visit India twice. He was also the first US President to be the Chief Guest at our Republic Day celebrations on January 26th. Earlier, in September last year, Prime Minister Modi paid a highly successful visit to the United States. The visit imparted renewed impetus, direction and focus to India-US ties. Key results of the Prime Minister' visit included new mechanisms to enhance trade and investment, particularly in infrastructure; new modalities to implement cooperation in energy, including nuclear and renewable energy, and climate change; new initiatives in knowledge, education and skill development; new approaches to defence trade, security and counter-terrorism collaboration; and new areas of cooperation between India and the USA in third countries. President Obama’s visit was the culmination of the qualitative reinvigoration of the bilateral relationship that resulted from Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the USA.
