IN HONOR OF THE BICENTENNIAL, THE LATIN AMERICAN BUFFET EVENT HELD IN ANKARA

The news center-TDO- Celebrating the 200th of their independence, a "Latin American Buffet in Honor of the 200th" event organized with the participation of the embassies of Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, and Peru and sponsored by the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of Bilkent University.

The ambassadors of Peru to Turkey Luis Alberto Campana Boluarte, as well as Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Chile, Paraguay, Colombia, El Salvador, Director General of Foreign Promotion and Cultural Affairs Ambassador Deniz Cakar, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abroad, Levent Customs, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of Bilkent University, Prof. Altay Güvenir, Tourism, and Hotel Management Department Head Eda Gürel, Trilye Restaurant owner Süreyya Üzmez and guests attended the event.

Ambassador Campana Boluarte, who delivered the opening speech, said that with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the seven Latin American countries in question have started an important project of cooperation diplomacy with a joint program that began with the laying of a wreath at Anitkabir in May.

Ambassador Campana Boluarte stressed that Latin America is a rich and multicultural region in terms of colors, smells, flavors with a wide and well-established history. Ambassador Boluarte noted that three professional chefs from the embassies of Brazil, Mexico, and Peru presented a short selection of Latin American cuisine with the support of the culinary team of the Faculty of culinary arts and the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management of Bilkent University.

Stating that Turkish cuisine will also be introduced in Latin American countries, "I am pleased to express that similar event will take place in our countries in 2023 so that the richness and diversity of the gastronomy of this great country can be recognized by the peoples of Latin America", Ambassador Campana Boluarte said.

"We can say that we are not only countries with a long-established history and a rich culture, but also societies with special tastes for good food," said Ambassador Campana Boluarte, noting that Latin America and Turkey have many common features.

He noted that the Latin American and Turkish communities have special tastes in good food, and events will be held in these countries in 2023 so that Turkish cuisine can also be recognized by the peoples of Latin America.

At the event, several exactingly selected delicacies of the mentioned countries were presented to promote the richness and diversity of Latin American cuisine.

Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of Bilkent University Prof. Dr. Dec Altay Güvenir also said that they have the honor to host this meeting to improve the cultural ties between the countries in question.

Güvenir stated that the students prepared a special menu for this celebration accompanied by experienced chefs from Peru, Brazil, and Mexico.

The event ended with the participants tasting exclusive Latin American delicacies.
