ILO ANNUAL GATHERING OF LABOUR MINISTERS POSTPONED FOR A YEAR

07/04/2020

İrem GÖL -TDO- The International Labour Organization announced that the annual gathering of world’s labor ministers will not take place this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but will convene in June 2021. In the statement, the United Nations agency said that its governing body had decided to defer the event for its 187 member states, scheduled for May 25 – June 5 2020, because of “severe worldwide travel restrictions due to the pandemic, and the need to ensure the health and well-being of delegates and staff.”

This will be the first time that ILO cancelled a conference in its 101 years of existence. ILO stated that it will use this time to advise member states on measure to mitigate Covid-19’s impact to support workers in the public and private sectors and informal economy.
