Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The news that children who were placed in isolation in the hospital because they tested positive for a new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) in Hong Kong were restrained toward beds in order to stay put has provoked a nationwide backlash.

Thousands of people have called on local authorities to end the practice, especially during isolation, stressing that restraination to a bed can cause psychological problems for children.

A statement was issued by the Hong Kong government regarding the pandemic measures taken across the country, including the 'policy of tying up children'.

"As a general rule, physical restraint on pediatric patients is only for the safety and well-being of patients," the statement said.
