İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO- 23.05.2017 Syrian regime stated that they had ‘’cleaned’’ Homs from rebels.  Governor of the city, Talal Barrazi, told Syrian TV channel Al- Ikhbariya as "It is a great achievement today ".

Last stronghold of rebels in Homs, city of al-Waer where was besieged for four years, captured by regime forces. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said more than 20,000 people evacuated from the area and placed to rebel-held areas in North.  Also, Agence France-Presse indicated that people of 50 buses and more than 30 trucks left the area with their household belongings.

Russian authorities were joined to the operation two months ago. It is alleged that at least 600 additional Russian soldiers will be deployed in al-Waer to provide security for residents who still live there or for those who were displaced by fighting and wish to return to homes.

Rebels still control areas north of Homs, while the government is on the offensive against so-called "Islamic State" militants to the south. Syria's opposition and armed rebels are now concentrated in the rebel-held northern province of Idlib, and in rural parts of Aleppo along the border with Turkey. ISIL militants still hold territory in eastern and northeastern Syria and south of Homs.
