Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- Mike Pezzullo, one of Australia's most senior security officials and Interior Minister, warned liberal democracies that they must also be ready for new wars as they fight for peace amid heightened global tensions.
Pezzullo, who sent letters to Anzac Day commemorations to mark the 106th anniversary of the Dardanelles Land Wars, said the likelihood of war in the Asia Pacific region was increasing again.
"Today, as we re-hear the voice of war as free nations and watch alarmingly the militarization of the problems we have experienced until recently, let us continue the search for peace without stopping, although it is unlikely to be the catalyst for war. War may be stupid, but greater stupidity is to think that when we stop thinking about it (war), it's as if if if we did this, war could leave us, forget about it. The rhythm of war is sometimes weak and long-distance, sometimes louder and closer," he said.
