Serhat TUNAR -TDO- German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, who is acting as a mediator in the ongoing tension between Turkey and Greece in the eastern Mediterranean, met with Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias in Athens. Speaking at a joint press conference after the meeting, Maas warned that even a single spark in the Eastern Mediterranean could lead to disaster.
Heiko Maas said he went to Athens with two messages, saying: "the first message is that Germany and the entire European Union are on the side of Greece in firm solidarity. Another and equally important message is to immediately reduce tensions and prepare for dialogue."
Maas continued his speech: "a single spark in the region can lead to disaster. Such a situation and the army of two neighboring NATO member countries is not in anyone's interest to face."
