Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- At least 3 civilians, 8 soldiers, and 5 opposition fighters were killed in clashes between government forces and opposition fighters in the southern Syrian province of Deraa on July 29.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks the conflict through activists on the ground, said tensions began earlier this week when government troops raided opposition-held areas.

The Observatory said Russia had failed to contain tensions in Deraa.

Syria's state news agency SANA said at least two civilians, including one child, were killed in the conflict.
