GUATEMALA'S 201TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY WAS CELEBRATED IN ANKARA

News Center -TDO- A reception was held at Ankara Göksu Restaurant for the 201st Anniversary of Guatemala's Independence, hosted by Jairo David Estrada Barrios, Guatemala's Ambassador to Ankara.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, ambassadors and distinguished guests attended the reception.

Delivering the opening speech, Ambassador Estrada Barrios said: “Please let me start by saying how proud I am to be a Guatemalan. Today we will have this important lunch on the occasion of the celebration of the 201st Independence of my beautiful country Guatemala. I would also like to extend my sincere congratulations to our fellow republicans. Costa Rica and El Salvador are also celebrating their Independence on this day. Each of you is a friend of the country of my birth and it is a great honor for me to be here today. Guatemalan President Dr. Alejandro Giammattei asked me to convey my warmest regards to each of the countries present here today and remind me that Guatemala will always be willing to provide friendly assistance when needed, because my country stands in solidarity for good reasons and to combine respect and cooperation, which are the prominent principles in bilateral relations between Guatemala and Turkey. accepts that they are the pillars of life. Before we end, many thanks to the Government of Turkey for allowing us to celebrate this special day in this blessed land.”

In his speech here, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı said, “I sincerely congratulate Guatemala on its national day. Guatemala celebrated 200 years of independence last year. Next year we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the proclamation of our Republic. Guatemala is one of the countries in the Latin American region with which we have historical and deep-rooted ties. Despite the geographical distance between our countries, we are pleased that our relations with Guatemala have improved in every possible way. With the opening of Embassies in Guatemala City and Ankara in 2015 and 2017, relations between our countries gained great momentum. Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu paid official visits to Guatemala in 2015 and 2019. Last month we hosted Mario Bucaro, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala. We are also taking steps to strengthen our relations with Guatemala in the fields of education and culture. In conclusion, I would like to thank Ambassador Estrada for his efforts to improve relations between Turkey and Guatemala. I sincerely congratulate once again the national day of Guatemala and pay my respects.”

At the end of the speeches, dinner was served to the guests.
