Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- German Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced that US President Donald Trump has rejected an invitation to the G-7 Summit due to the ongoing new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
The G-7 Leaders' Summit was scheduled to be held at the Camp David compound near Washington DC, on June 10-12, but was moved online platform due to coronavirus pandemics.
Donald Trump announced on his Twitter account on May 20 that he was considering building the summit face-to-face, saying that many countries are entering the process of normalization.
German Government Spokesman Steffen Seibert, “Chancellor Merkel thanked President Trump for inviting him to the G-7 summit in Washington in June. However, given the epidemic situation as of today, he cannot agree to participate in his personal involvement and travel to Washington," said in a statement.
In addition to Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron wants the summit to be held face-to-face.
