Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder claimed that Europe needs partners such as Turkey and Russia to find its own power.
Gerhard Schröder, who served as prime minister in Germany for 7 years, said in an interview with the Rheinische Post: "If you look geographically, Europe needs partners like Turkey and Russia to find its strength. We must not block the paths that make us stronger."
Asked if there was a chance that Turkey was moving away from Europe and that this would be stopped, Schroeder replied: "No, it's not over. In 1963, a promise was made that Turkey would join the EU in a long process. There were serious efforts on both sides, most of them in my time."
