İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO- In the eve of the handover ceremony, George Soros, a billionaire philanthropist and the founder of the Soros fund Management LLC, told an audience of business leaders in World Economic Forum, in Davos, that Trump would cause the collapse of U.S. economy.
He said “I personally have confidence that he’s going to fail … because his ideas that guide him are inherently self-contradictory”. He added "I don't think the markets are going to do very well. Markets see Trump dismantling regulations and reducing taxes, and that has been the dream but has called for border taxes and showed his willing to withdraw Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, among other policies that have unclear ramifications for U.S. growth.’’ He concluded his speech as; "It's impossible to predict exactly how Trump is going to act".
There is no doubt that Donald Trump has been the most debated presidential nominee in the American history. His name was reputed in a rape scandal, bad treatment of woman, cyber-intervention of Russian Federation to the presidential elections and finally it has been alleged with blackmailing. During his campaign, Trump did not hesitate to take a tougher line both in binary relations with his rival Hillary Clinton and on former government policies. His focus was mainly economy and indirectly interior politics. He criticized previous policies on international economy, promised to withdraw from Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), impose taxes to multinational companies (MNC’s) that produce abroad, create additional job opportunities and increase GDP. He also insisted on the construction of a wall on U.S.-Mexico border, paid by the Mexican government and the limitation on the number of Muslim migrants coming to the country. Following his victory, his words became more flexible in some issues like Muslim migrants. Nevertheless, appointment of David Friedman, a strong supporter of illegal Jewish settlements in Palestine, as the new American ambassador to Israel and plans to move U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, tightened relations with some Middle East countries. Moreover he showed us how his economic protectionism will shake the World by encouraging Ford and Toyota to change their investment routes.
Donald Trump has officially sat on the presidential seat yet. However, before Trump took over the task, in the past two months, he changed many things on Earth. Perhaps George Soros may have approached it in favor of Hillary Clinton in the elections, but Trump is sure to be much different from the predecessor Obama in certain issues.
