Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition demand for a coalition was rejected by Benny Gantz, leader of the Blue and White Alliance.
The parties sitting on the bargaining table on Sunday did not get any results from the negotiations and blamed each other for this situation. After the meetings, Netanyahu made a final effort to form a government and proposed a meeting with his rival Gantz during the week.
However, Gantz's party, which came first in the elections, rejected the request, arguing that the negotiating conditions between the leaders were not mature enough.
The elections held for the second time since the beginning of the year did not help end the political crisis in the country. Netanyahu, also dealing with corruption charges, lost power from the polls. His party Likud won 32 seats, while his rival Gantz won 33 seats, leaving him behind.
Netanyahu must form the government within 28 days. However, in case of failure, the period can be extended for another 14 days. President Reuven Rivlin is likely to hand over the post to Gantz.
