FRENCH PROSECUTORS OPEN PROBE INTO LEBANESE BANK GOVERNOR

Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- In France, a Paris court has opened a probe investigation into the personal existence of Bank of Lebanon Governor Riad Salameh.

The Paris Financial Crime Prosecutor's Office said it had launched a preliminary investigation into allegations that Salameh was "complicit and money laundering."

As part of the preliminary investigation, the assets of the 70-year-old banker, who previously worked for Merrill Lynch in the United States, will be investigated.

Salameh, who has served as governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon since 1993, is also accused by the current interim government of playing a role in the significant devaluation of the country's currency.
