Serhat TUNAR -TDO- French MP Eric Ciotti testified that Covid-19 patients who stayed in health-assisted aged care homes were left to die.
Ciotti, an MP for the opposition party "Les Republicains," said in an interview with French Radio J: "most of the Covid-19 patients in aged care homes were not admitted to hospitals, these people who needed treatment were left to die."
Ciotti said the health crisis was the biggest scandal, and criticised the fact that many elderly patients were deliberately not taken to hospital on the grounds that hospital capacity was not sufficient. In this case, the government should open private hospitals to everyone, Ciotti said.
So far 4,889 people who have stayed in elderly care homes in the country have died from coronavirus, according to a report by French authorities on Saturday evening. Last Monday, the French government announced that Covid-19 testing would be carried out to anyone staying in aged care homes.
