FRENCH HEALTH MINISTER: VACCINATION WILL NOT BE GIVEN PRIORITY TO MPS

14/01/2021

Selin ATAY-TDO- “Lawmakers would not be given priority in the vaccination campaign against the novel type of coronavirus”, French Health Minister Olivier Veran said.

"Being an example means waiting your turn," Health Minister Olivier Veran said in a speech for informing the National Assembly about the government's vaccination strategy.

Health Minister Veran reminded him that he was also a doctor, and although he was health minister, he would not be vaccinated because he was under 50 years old, he would wait his turn like everyone else. "I will also be when vaccination begins for health workers under the age of 50," Veran said in his speech. France's Health Minister stressed that the public would be made an example by waiting calmly for the turn.

Minister Veran also announced that they would reach the target of vaccinating 1 million people by the end of January.

France has been criticised for falling far behind other countries in the vaccination campaign, which began after the European Union approved the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. France has expanded its vaccine coverage to include health workers, firefighters and first responders who are over 50 or at risk.
