FRANCE WANTS SANCTIONS IMPOSED ON TURKEY

28/11/2020

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- France continues its pressure on the European Union to impose sanctions on Turkey over the Eastern Mediterranean crisis.

The French government is demanding sanctions be imposed on Turkey, citing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's failure to back down despite the European Union's October 1 sanctions warning.

Apart from economic restrictions, the sanctions also include lifting Turkey's status as a member state of the European Union, Reuters reported.

A diplomat told Reuters that Turkey is an important partner on many key issues, because there is no consensus among European Union countries and it is premature to talk about sanctions.
