Serhat TUNAR -TDO- French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France's next-generation aircraft carrier will have nuclear power, replacing the Navy's flagship Charles de Gaulle in 2038.

The 11th carrier ship in the country's history will be built by the French defense company Naval Group and will be equipped with a new Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System developed by the United States-based General Atomics, French officials said.

The next-generation aircraft carrier will have a length of 300 meters, a net weight of 75 thousand tons, and a carrying capacity of 30 French warships Rafale.

The French military initially wanted a conventional-powered ship, but President Macron wanted a ship powered by nuclear power, and that choice was made.
